It’s Just Ann by Bel Watson

Title: It’s Just Ann

Author: Bel Watson

Published: March 1st, 2015

Genre: YA Contemporary

Rating: 4.5/5

Summary from Wattpad:

“Let’s get the facts straight. I am no heroine and I will never bring pride to my family. I am what you could call a failure. My grades? Average. My social life? Average. Talents? Hmm… well, I think I have none. I’m not exceptional in any way and I know I’m a disappointment for my father. And in this day and age there’s no way I could just take my father’s place to save him from a horrible fate. There is a huge weight on my shoulders but I can’t carry it no matter how hard I try. I have no idea what I can do, I only know what I can’t do. Yet I still would try anything to make my father proud, even just once. Oh right, I forgot to tell you whom I was name after. Yes, I was named after Mulan, that bright heroine who saved China and brought pride to her family. Talk about big expectations. But Mulan doesn’t suit me, so it’s just Ann.”

Review:

I really loved this book I found the book on Wattpad and you can find it here. This book is a part of the “Aware Princess” series which started as a fan-fiction series about One Direction (I was/still am a big Directioner) but morphed into general fiction. This is one of my favorite books and I’m surprised it hasn’t been published yet. The plot is very interesting and dynamic and it explores friendships and familial relationships. It also explores the idea of stepping up in life to meet new challenges such a defeating the huns or taking over your father’s company. What really struck me about this book was how diverse this cast was which I really enjoyed. The author strove to create three-dimensional characters and also made these characters diverse without making them into clichés. The male leads in this were 110% swoon worthy. Can someone please get me a Charlie because he is a dreamboat? This book was fantastic and I would definitely recommend it also it’s very accessible on Wattpad.

Review:

Happy Fourth of July!! I thought this book would be a great review to celebrate the holiday! I actually listened to the book as an audio book which I got in CD form from the library. Turns out I read the second book in this series years before I read the first one. I would totally recommend this book but I did find this book to be a little bit young for my age. The plot was another “woe is me I’m not popular and my family doesn’t understand me” stories. Which some people really enjoy and relate to but I moved on from that stage in my life after 8th grade. If you are a little older and this plot seemed as young to you as it seemed to me I would recommend reading the second book. The plot’s pretty easy to follow and I think its a good read for high schoolers like myself. But anything by Meg Cabot is always going to be a little saucy and a great read.

Cute Summer Reads

Raise your hand if you thought you’d find a summer love/fling/bae this summer! I know I’m definitely raising my hand (Bethany you know you are too). Now keep your hand raised if this did not happen! *Me and a million other girls keep our hands raised* Every year I tell myself I will find a summer romance for the ages. Full of cute dates and hand holding and all of those cute YA Romance worthy moments. But, a summer romance has not yet graced my presence. They are unrealistic but we all need our summer fling fix and while you may not have a real one my coping method is always to read a book about a cute summer fling (or a book with romancey summer flingy feelings) that has some awesome characters to live through. So, here are my recommendations for some books that will give you those cute summer flingy feelings; (oh and i’m gonna rate them on the “flirty scale” with cute kiss emojis 1 kiss=”OMG THAT WAS SO CUTE”  5 kisses=”How can I live with this much adorable/swoon-worthy romance!?”

I just recently read this book a couple of months ago and I absolutely loved it. You’ll have to read a full description on Goodreads but the book is set in a cute beach town and is very adorable <3.

“You couldn’t just pick and choose at will when someone depended on you, or loved you. It wasn’t like a light switch, easy to turn on or off. If you were in, you were in. Out, you were out.” — Sarah Dessen, Along for the Ride

I read this during the winter and I feel absolutely in love this was sooooooo great!!!

“It was exactly as he’d thought it would be, like the first time and the millionth time all at once, like being wide awake, like losing his balance. Only this time, it wasn’t just him; this time, they were losing their balance together.”
― Jennifer E. Smith, This Is What Happy Looks Like

Keeping the Moon by Sarah Dessen

c674d5746f3f669964324fc1faf8e415 c674d5746f3f669964324fc1faf8e415

I know I post a lot about Sarah Dessen in these kinds of challenges but she is the master of YA romance! I love this book because while it does have some very cute romancey moments I think it also talks about friendship and self-esteem and I love that. It also talks about when the romance doesn’t always work out and I think that’s great too.

“for once, you believed in yourself. you believed you were beautiful and so did the rest of the world.”
― Sarah Dessen, Keeping the Moon

I read this book last summer and I enjoyed it so much. The relationship was so cute and absolutely darling and at points it reminded me of those weird indie romance movies but I loved it. Especially because the book trailer was done by this film maker I love so much so you should totally check it out also I think the trailer gives you sooo many feels; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MDwuE16oC5w

JUST READ IT THERE ARE ICE CREAM CONES ON THE COVER! Seriously though this book is very summery and very good.

“He looked right at me as he gave me a half smile. “You’re the brightest thing in the room”, he said. He lifted his hand from my waist, and slowly, carefully brushed a stray lock of hair from my cheek. “You shine””.― Morgan Matson, Since You’ve Been Gone

This book involves travel, cute British boys, and a little bit of mystery. What’s not to love?

“I like you because you were mad. And you’re pretty. And pretty sane for a mad person.”
― Maureen Johnson, 13 Little Blue Envelopes

I hope you enjoyed that! Have a great summer with or without a summer fling.

Instead of a song I am linking my favorite short film. It’s by Yulin Kuang and it’s full of Harry Potter references and all of the feels and it is aptly named I Ship It

A Little Life Update… (an open letter from me to you)

Dear Amazing Readers of Paper Perfection,

How have you guys been? I hope you all had a Merry Christmas! So, I know I haven’t posted in a bit but I thought I’d just write you all a letter to check in and say “hello.” Also, the 1 year anniversary of my blog was yesterday so I just want to thank all of you for sticking with me and loving me and my posts even when my posting schedule’s kinda chaotic. Currently I’m in California visiting some family for the holidays but I am missing the cold weather of my home state. I’m assuming you guys want to hear about my reading habits so I’ll get to that. While I haven’t been posting much I am one book away from my 70 book goal for the year!!! *woot woot* I recently finished Forever by Judy Blume, Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli, This Lullaby by Sarah Dessen, and Let It Snow by John Green and others. They were all amazing books and let me know if you would like reviews on any one of them. I’ve also recently been catching up on some of my favorite shows like Scream Queens, Reign, Vampire Diaries, and Greys Anatomy. Please do not spoil these for me I am so incredibly behind :(. Anyway, I just wanted to check in you guys and let you know that I love and care about you all and I’m so glad you choose to subscribe to me. If you ever want to talk about life, music, or your new favorite thing to watch feel free to get in touch using my contact page (please contact me I love to hear about you guys)!

The Fall-Time Cozy Book Tag!

Hey guys so I’ve been seeing this tag floating around and I most recently saw it on Book Snacks. So, I’d thought I’d do this tag to celebrate this wonderful time of the year! I hope you enjoy!

Crunching Leaves:The world is full of color. Choose a book that has reds, oranges, and yellows on the cover.

I choose Taken At Dusk by C.C Hunter because I absolutely love this fantasy series and this cover totally screams fall sunset to me!

Cozy Sweater: It’s finally cold enough to wear warm cozy clothing. What book gives you the warm fuzzies?

A Little Something Different by Sandy Hall is soooo very cute! I love the way she uses different perspectives and it reminds me of how sweet and sorta awkward having a crush can be :).

Fall Storm: The wind is howling and the rain is pounding. Choose your favorite book or genre that you would like to read on a stormy day

As you guys know my two favorite genres are fantasy and contemporary. 🙂 This is a really hard decision but I think I’d read some fantasy books because they are the perfect addition to any stormy day. But if I were to read something contemporary I would definitely read Eleanor & Park that book is so cute. ❤

Cool Crisp Air: Who’s the coolest character you’d want to trade places with?

I would definitely trade place with Luna Lovegood from Harry Potter! First of all her name is pretty awesome, she has some amazing friends, and she has magical powers! Also, she is super sweet and caring 🙂

Hot Apple Cider: What under hyped book do you want to see become the biggest, hottest thing?

I really love this book it doesn’t have great review on Goodreads but I found it to be deliciously creepy and really captivating.

Coat, Scarves and Mittens: The weather has turned cold and it’s time to cover up. What’s the most embarrassing book cover you own that you like to keep hidden in public?

I actually really like this book it’s just the covers a little bit cheesy. I’m mostly embarrassed by it because when I got it in seventh grade from the library my mom asked me about the cover and winked. So, that basically made it the most embarrassing book over to me after that. 🙂

Pumpkin Spice: What’s your favorite fall time comfort food/foods?

Okay, so tea isn’t technically a food but I love it during this time of the year. Specifically the Candy Cane Green Tea from Trader Joe’s which is MY FAVORITE TEA OF ALL TIME! You have to try it!

Well, I hoped you enjoyed my tag I loved doing it it was so much fun! I tag all of you guys and if you would like just comment down below if you’re planning on doing it and I’ll include your blog in my post so people can check it out!

XOXO,

Madison

A SONG FROM ME TO YOU:

Little More Time by Ciaran Lavery

“Gimme just a little more time and I’ll be flowing to your door.

Just like a seed all my moves are slow I’m always heading for unsure.

I like to think I’m not a complicated man, but then again I can’t be sure.

So give me just a little more time, you know, you’ll give me til the early morn’.

I play the flute in a rag doll suit, and you wear the overcoat.

I never wanted you more than the time you buttoned I across your throat. You held my arm like an anchor would tie itself onto a boat.”

*NEW SEGMENT* Cover Art Spotlight

BOOK COVER SPOTLIGHT

So, I am starting a new segment where I spotlight the cover art of  of a book that I find absolutely beautiful. I think this will be a great edition to my blog and it’s a great way for me to express my love of art. Enjoy!

Book: Shatter Me

Author: Tahereh Mafi

Artist: Unknown

My Review: https://paperperfection.wordpress.com/2014/12/18/shatter-me-by-tahereh-mafi/

So, I choose this cover because it is absolutely beautiful. If you like the design you should check out her other novels they are breathtaking. If you’ve seen the other cover of this book you also know it is very beautiful but I find this one so much more intriguing. I also find this so much more refreshing from the other recent book covers covered in ball gowns *sigh*. Well, I hoped you enjoyed this new segment 🙂 have a good rest of the week ❤

“I spent my life folded between the pages of books.
In the absence of human relationships I formed bonds with paper characters. I lived love and loss through stories threaded in history; I experienced adolescence by association. My world is one interwoven web of words, stringing limb to limb, bone to sinew, thoughts and images all together. I am a being comprised of letters, a character created by sentences, a figment of imagination formed through fiction.”
Tahereh Mafi, Shatter Me

XOXO,

Madison

A Song From Me To You:

Afterlife by Ingrid Michaelson

“When the world is breaking down around you
Taking everything that you know
What you didn’t know
Is that we can go forever if we want to
We can live inside of a moment
The one that we own
You and me we got this
You and me we’re beautiful, beautiful
We all, we all, we’re gonna be alright
We got, we got, we always got the fight in us
We all, we all, we’re gonna live tonight
Like there’s no tomorrow ’cause we’re the afterlife”

Bookish Buys

So, last week I was in the mood for some online shopping so I bought a couple of bookish things to stock up for fall. I didn’t buy a ton of stuff but I thought I’d share my purchases with you to promote some independent booksellers that I love and to show off my new goodies :). So let’s get into it!

mmug

Please Go Away, I’m Reading Mug

This mug is made by one of my favorite bookish stores, Bookworm Boutique. It is such a cute little online store and they sell a multitude of super cute bookish products. I got this mug because I find it so #relateable and I love the lavender color. I can’t wait to fill this mug with tea and spend a night in reading a book book.

Adventure Time Bookmarks

Okay these are so cute and I love Adventure Time! I was confused at first because the pictures looked like I was ordering two for $2.50 but it was actually one that was double sided. I still love them very much. So it turns out I actually ordered two instead of four so here are the backsides of these fabulous bookmarks;
