Cute Summer Reads

Raise your hand if you thought you’d find a summer love/fling/bae this summer! I know I’m definitely raising my hand (Bethany you know you are too). Now keep your hand raised if this did not happen! *Me and a million other girls keep our hands raised* Every year I tell myself I will find a summer romance for the ages. Full of cute dates and hand holding and all of those cute YA Romance worthy moments. But, a summer romance has not yet graced my presence. They are unrealistic but we all need our summer fling fix and while you may not have a real one my coping method is always to read a book about a cute summer fling (or a book with romancey summer flingy feelings) that has some awesome characters to live through. So, here are my recommendations for some books that will give you those cute summer flingy feelings; (oh and i’m gonna rate them on the “flirty scale” with cute kiss emojis 1 kiss=”OMG THAT WAS SO CUTE”  5 kisses=”How can I live with this much adorable/swoon-worthy romance!?”

I just recently read this book a couple of months ago and I absolutely loved it. You’ll have to read a full description on Goodreads but the book is set in a cute beach town and is very adorable <3.

“You couldn’t just pick and choose at will when someone depended on you, or loved you. It wasn’t like a light switch, easy to turn on or off. If you were in, you were in. Out, you were out.” — Sarah Dessen, Along for the Ride

This is What Happy Looks Like by Jennifer E. Smith

c674d5746f3f669964324fc1faf8e415 c674d5746f3f669964324fc1faf8e415 c674d5746f3f669964324fc1faf8e415 c674d5746f3f669964324fc1faf8e415

I read this during the winter and I feel absolutely in love this was sooooooo great!!!

“It was exactly as he’d thought it would be, like the first time and the millionth time all at once, like being wide awake, like losing his balance. Only this time, it wasn’t just him; this time, they were losing their balance together.”

Keeping the Moon by Sarah Dessen

c674d5746f3f669964324fc1faf8e415 c674d5746f3f669964324fc1faf8e415

I know I post a lot about Sarah Dessen in these kinds of challenges but she is the master of YA romance! I love this book because while it does have some very cute romancey moments I think it also talks about friendship and self-esteem and I love that. It also talks about when the romance doesn’t always work out and I think that’s great too.

“for once, you believed in yourself. you believed you were beautiful and so did the rest of the world.”

I read this book last summer and I enjoyed it so much. The relationship was so cute and absolutely darling and at points it reminded me of those weird indie romance movies but I loved it. Especially because the book trailer was done by this film maker I love so much so you should totally check it out also I think the trailer gives you sooo many feels; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MDwuE16oC5w

JUST READ IT THERE ARE ICE CREAM CONES ON THE COVER! Seriously though this book is very summery and very good.

Things I’ve Learned From My 17ish Years on Earth

I recently turned 17 at the beginning of the month so I thought I’d share some lovely life lessons I’ve learned in my 17 something years on Earth. So please enjoy all I’ve learned in list form;

  1. Love yourself.Trust me I know this can be so very hard to do but it can make your life so much better you’ll feel happy and confident because of it. Just trust me, learn to love yourself.
  2. Don’t buy into the idea that having a boyfriend/girlfriend will make your life suddenly better. Sorry darling but it just doesn’t work that way you’ll still feel a little off or unhappy no matter who’s by your side
  3. Learning how to do winged eyeliner is a pain but it’s completely worth it.
  4. Find good friends they make life shine a little brighter
  5. Breakups suck but you’ll get through it (it helps though to watch netflix, make sappy playlists, and hang out with friends though)
  6. Don’t do things that make you unhappy its not worth it and you’ll just feel sucky about it
  7. While, friends are great they’re not always forever my mom always says “Friends are either here for a reason, a season, or a lifetime.”
  8. Find you’re style if you like skater skirts wear them if stilettos make you feel like you can crush a small army than WEAR THOSE FUCKING STILETTOS! Wear whatever makes you feel AMAZING no matter what people say.
  9. Tea is amazing drink it copiously
  10. You’re going to do cringey things as you grow up. You may say something bitchy, or unkind, or just really freaking stupid. But, its okay as long as you forgive yourself, apologize, and do better next time.
  11. Learn how you affect the world around you. It may be little like how eating meat greatly affects our environment or how you can change how you use social media to make your and other lives better. Be educated about these things so you can make informed educated decisions throughout your life.
  12. Drink water its good for you dummy
  13. Brush your teeth for the duration of a pop song its good for your teeth and you’ll get to work on your dance moves
  14. GET INVOLVED. Whether that be in your community, at school, or with your family. Just go out and DO THINGS.
  15. If you want to change the world even just a little bit organizations like dosomething.org and Peta2 are super helpful
  16. Find yourself attractive with or without makeup cause you’re super hot either way
  17. Don’t shame or make fun of people for doing what makes them happy whether its putting on make up, dancing like a crazy person, or reading way too much. Just because you don’t think its “cool” doesn’t give you the right to be an asshole because someone doing what makes them happy
  18. Education is important it may suck a some points but its worth it and you’re getting a great opportunity that many people sadly don’t have
  19. Spend time with yourself. Plan an evening to just have some me time and understand yourself a little bit more. ITS WORTH IT. And you have to be with yourself you’re whole life so you should learn to love being you with or without someone else.
  20. Do what you think is right. And forgive yourself when you don’t. It’s tough to do especially when friends are telling you to do something else but it pays off.

And finally…

21. Try to live with no regrets before I do something I think when I’m 70 years old will I really regret going for this or doing something embarrassing and the answer is almost always “no.” Audition for that play, audition for that team, apply for your dream college because you won’t regret going for it when you’re older you’ll regret not even trying at all.

I hope these tips helped all of you out and if you ever need any advice or someone to talk to just check out my contact me tag and let me know. I love all of you guys and just know life is hard but you can always get through it with a good song, a nice book, and a helping hand.

xoxo,

Madison

“A fight is going on inside me,” said an old man to his son. “It is a terrible fight between two wolves. One wolf is evil. He is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego. The other wolf is good. he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. The same fight is going on inside you.”

The son thought about it for a minute and then asked, “Which wolf will win?”

The old man replied simply, “The one you feed.”

Revenge of the Girl with the Great Personality by Elizabeth Eulberg

Title: Revenge of the Girl With the Great Personality

Author: Elizabeth Eulberg

Published: March 1st, 2013

Genres: YA, Contemporary

Rating: 3.6/5

Summary:

Lexi has always been considered plain compared to her seven-year-old pageant queen sister. It ‘s been this way since the divorce when her mother stopped putting her energy into mothering and began putting all of her energy into pageants. Sure, Lexi’s got problems but she has friends, and she’s funny and I guess you could say she’s popular. But, she’s never been one of those girls the type who make boys fall head over heels for them. Lexi’s tired of being passed over from guys and having her mother care more about pageants than her. She’s the “girl with the great personality” and she’s done being in the background.

Review:

Okay. so when I first read the summary of this book I was just like #relateable. Okay I’m sorry for the use of the hashtag but i really thought this book was going to be a cute funny read but sadly it really didn’t live up to its title. The character Lexi is just so one-sided and I really hate how insecure and “weak” the author made her. I know that every girl has insecurities but I hate it when authors use a girl’s insecurities to propel the whole plot line. But I thought Lexi’s best friend was pretty truthful about Lexi’s apparent insecurities and brought her back down to earth.

“I hate that you let other people’s opinion influence you, especially if their delusional.”

And Lexi’s sister was absolutely fabulous I mean she was a total brat but she was sassy, dramatic and she completely reminded me of toddlers and tiaras.

I also didn’t like ow the author portrayed her crush on a guy I just wish she talked more about her life and family instead of overly romanticizing a high school crush.

“There you are!” Logan says, and I try to keep my heart from floating out of my body when he smiles at me.”

So.. this book wasn’t my favorite but I liked how the character evolved and there were some things that I found #relateable. Also, this sassy line toward the end made me just a little bit proud of the character.

“So I can take off the makeup, but I’m still a good person. But there’s no such thing as bitch remover.”

Also this was pretty cute;

“I, Lexi Anderson, am proud to say that I do, indeed, have a great personality.
And it’s only a matter of time before the Beautiful People will be wishing they had great personalities, too.
Good luck with that, oh Beautiful Ones.
Because we Great Girls are the rarest breed.”

Have a great weekend guys!

-p.s shutout to Bethany for getting me into blogging again-

Here’s a song I felt fit the book;

Melanie Martinez– Mrs. Potato Head

“Kids forever, kids forever
Baby soft skin turns into leather
Don’t be dramatic it’s only some plastic
No one will love you if you’re unattractive
Oh Mrs. Potato Head tell me, is it true that pain is beauty?
Does a new face come with a warranty?
Will a pretty face make it better?
Oh Mr. Potato Head tell me
How did you afford her surgery?
Do you swear you’ll stay forever
Even if her face don’t stay together.”

XOXO,

Madison ❤

P.S here’s a couple more cute gifs I found for Toddler and Tiaras

Okay this is probably how you guys are feeling right now;

Fabulously Fun Reads For Summer!!!

summer book recomendations

Hey Guys! It’s been awhile, sorry I haven’t posted for a couple months first I had a bunch of stuff going on with school and finals and then my laptop decided to be a poop and I had to go get it fixed. So, since summer officially started a couple days ago I decided to give you some fun recommendations for books to read during the summer. Most of these books will be YA romance or fantasy books. I love to live vicariously through YA characters during the summer, I mean who doesn’t want to pretend that they’re in a whirlwind romance or finding out that they have magical powers when they’re actually just sitting in their basement. Okay, guys I hope you like my book recommendations for summer! Remember to read some books outside while we have this nice weather I love reading a good book under a shady tree during the summer. 🙂

Beach Blondes by Katherine Aapplegate

So, I know the title sounds cheesy that’s what I thought when I picked it up from the library but it was so good. I loved it!  It was sweet and dramatic and I just finished the second book in the series last week. I found this book to be captivating and it made me feel like I was in Florida with the characters in the book having the best summer of my life right alongside them.

Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins

This book is super cute! I loved this book and it’s perfect for summer because it’s filled with cute British boys, fun French culture, and great friendships!

ThAngel Experiment (Maximum Ride #1) by James Patterson

This book is great it’s full of family, adventure, and epic dangers and mysteries. I loved the main character she was strong and caring and knew how to kick some butt it’s sure to be an exciting read for summer.

Born at Midnight by C.C. Hunter

I loved Born at Midnight and the whole Shadow Falls series! I love fantasy books like this and I loved how all the characters have some super cool powers. If this book was real I would totally want to be a witch and go to the Shadow Falls camp.

Summer camp + ❤ + fantasy = Shadow Falls

Girl Online by Zoe Sugg and Siobhan Curham (The Ghost Writer)

*WARNING THIS BOOK IS EXTREMELY CHEESY* Okay, this book is cheesy and I know that some of you don’t like cheesy YA romances but I love them. So, if you want an easy and lovely read this summer read Girl Online.

The Truth About Forever by Sarah Dessen

Okay, as you guys know I love Sarah Dessen’s books with a passion. And this book is great for the summer and it make will you feel all of the feels.

Frost- Jotun Chronicles #1 by Erin Latimer

Link: https://www.wattpad.com/story/990020-frost-jotun-chronicles-1

I read this book last summer and I loved it and guess what it’s on Wattpad so you can read this awesome book for free. This book is a beautifully written fantasy and you should definitely give it a try this summer!

Paper Towns by John Green

Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rFGiHm5WMLk

You’ve probably heard a ton about this book because it’s coming out as a movie soon but Paper Towns is my favorite book by John Green. It’s super cute and if you start soon you can read it before the movie comes out! 😀

The Winnie Years by Lauren Myracle

Okay, so I know I cheated because this is a series not a single book but I love this series! Lauren Myracle is one of my favorite authors and my friends and I read her books all throughout middle school. This series is about growing up and falling in love and these books are perfect for a fun relaxed summer.

I’d Tell You I Love You But Then I’d Have to Kill You by Ally Carter

The setting for this book is a spy school for girls and frankly this book is fucking awesome. I love the strong female characters who fight for themselves and fall in love at the same time. Also, if you like this series read the Airhead series by Ally Carter too because that is also pretty fucking fabulous.

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants by Ann Brashares

I’m pretty sure I don’t have to explain myself with this one just read it because it’s awesome. 🙂

Pants on Fire by Meg Cabot

I loved the main character in this book and I liked how it talked about how people can get tangled up in their own lies. I thought it was pretty good but the Goodreads reviews weren’t all great so let me know what you think if you read it.

So, those are my recommendations for some sweet summer reads! If you’ve read any of them comment down below so we can chat about them together!

Here’s my summer playlist I hope you enjoy it!

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han + Video Representation

Title: To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before

Author: Jenny Han

Published: April 15th, 2014

Genre: YA

Rating: 4.5/5

Summary:

Whenever Lara Jean falls in love she always writes her crush a letter and puts it in an old hat box that belonged to her mother. Lara had been doing this for years it was her way of getting over her feelings and moving on. When her older sister goes to college, Lara’s dad decides to start fresh and donate some things to Goodwill. Lara begins to realize that her dad sent her letters out as more boys from her past begin popping up in her life again. As more crushes from her past reappear Lara’s love life gets increasingly complicated. Her neighbor Josh and her old friend Peter begin to confuse Lara’s emotions and make her wish that the letters in the box should have never been sent.

Review:

I loved this book! It was witty and smart and it had just the right amount of romance to draw me in. Lara is an interesting character who makes you understand her situation. After reading Elanor & Park and 13 Reasons Why I really needed a light and entertaining read and this book delivered. I loved how the author portrayed Lara as a character she fell in love but she wasn’t stupid and I feel like I would really want to be her friend. Lara Jean made me laugh and me want to get my own Peter Kavinsky.  Here are some super cute quotes I liked ❤ ;

“You only like guys you don’t have a chance with, because you’re scared.”

“Do you know what it’s like to like someone so much you can’t stand it and know that they’ll never feel the same way?”

“If love is like a possession, maybe my letter are like my exorcisms”

Literary Video Adaptation:

So, when I was hanging out on YouTube I found this super cool literary adaptation of To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Yulin Kuang. I’ll include it down below but definitely check it out it’s so cool.

XOXO,

Madison ❤

Here’s a song I felt fit the book;

Lenka- The Show

“I’m just a little bit caught in the middle
Life is a maze and love is a riddle
I don’t know where to go I can’t do it alone I’ve tried
And I don’t know why
Slow it down
Make it stop
Or else my heart is going to pop
‘Cause it’s too much
Yeah, it’s a lot
To be something I’m not
I’m a fool
Out of love
‘Cause I just can’t get enough”

A Walk to Remember by Nicholas Sparks

walk_to_remember_sparks__55199-1332879391-1280-1280Title: A Walk to Remember

Author: Nicholas Sparks

Published:September 1st, 2004

Genre: Romance, Fiction

Rating: 3.8/5

Summary:

It was 1958 and Landon Carter was spending his time eating peanuts, applying to colleges, and passing time as he finished his last days at Beaumont High School. He never knew that going to Homecoming with Jamie Sullivan, the town’s good girl, would change his life. As, he begins to spend more time with Jamie he begins to understand what it means to do something for someone else. Jamie shows him the depth of the human heart through her daily acts of love and compassion. Landon sees her compassion and begins to wonder if he has fallen in love with Jamie Sullivan.

Review:

*WARNING THIS BOOK IS SUPER SAD AND CHEESY*

I know okay I’m a cliché for reading Nicholas Sparks but this book was lovely and sweet and just what I needed after Valentines Day. Landon and Jamie’s story is so cute and incredibly cliché she’s the innocent girl who carries around a bible and he’s the guy who thinks he’s the shit. So, after starting this book I heard from many people that it was incredibly sad but me being a dummy decided “No it couldn’t be sad it’s such a sweet story.” But I was wrong, this is how it happens he says “I love you” and then she says “I’m dying” at this point I am full on bawling and screaming at the book “FUCK YOU NICHOLAS SPARKS!”

So, if your looking for a sweet and sad story read this book but by the end you will want to scream from anguish.

XOXO,

Madison

Here’s a song that I think fit the book;

Good Girls– 5 Seconds of Summer

“She’s a good girl
A straight A-student
She’s really into all that self-improvement
I swear she lives in that library
But if you ask her she’ll say,

“That’s where you’ll find me!”

But if you look then you won’t find her there
She may be clever but she just acts too square
‘Cause in the back of the room, where nobody looks,
She’ll be with her boyfriend, she’s not reading books”
